Organic farming is an agricultural management system that minimizes or completely avoids the use of chemically processed inputs such as fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, plant, hormones and feed additives. Modern organic farming methods combine scientific knowledge of environment protection principles and technological achievements with traditional farming practices based on naturally occurring biological processes. For example while conventional agriculture uses chemical pesticides and water-soluble synthetically purified fertilizers, organic farmers are restricted to using natural pesticides and fertilizers in order to provide consumers with fresh, tasty, authentic and safe food products. The organic farmer based on rotation (crop rotation for harvest), crop residues, fallow, manure (manure) and mechanical cultivation to maintain the productivity of the soil, enriched with nutrients to plants and to control weeds , insects and pests. Organic farming also often associated with supporting authorities over the crop, such as Fair Trade (Fair Trade) and environmental management.
The European Union has established a set of strict regulations on organic agriculture which indicate the way in which it must be the cultivation of crops, rearing animals, processed foods of plant and animal origin and feed to be labeled as organic. It is also mandatory in the labeling to include the code accredited and recognized inspection bodies that monitor and certify operators and producers to organic production. So, whenever consumers buy an organic product can be assured that they have been produced in accordance with strict rules that respect the environment and animals.
